Variables included in the data file are as follows:
- First 3 columns are the PIT tag codes for implanted snakes. The 10-digit code is broken into 3 columns for convenience. Only the last 4 digits were used to ID snakes in field notes etc.
- Brand indicates subcaudal scale marks used prior to or in conjunction with PIT tags.
- Sex is the snake's sex.
- Cap# is the number of different years the snake has been captured in
- Cap## is the number of captures within a year. A=1st capture that year, B=2nd capture in that year, ...
- Year, Month and day give the date of each capture
- Total is the snakes total length measured by running a string along its belly from the snout to the tail tip.
- Tail is measured on a ruler from the vent to the tip.
- SVL is a simple calculation = Total - Tail.
- Mass is mass in grams measured with a pesola with the snake in a bag.
- FFWM (fat-free wet mass) aand %fat are calculated from a formula given in Weatherhead and Brown CJZ 1996,
- Estage is age estimated from SVL from a formula in Brown, G.P. and P.J. Weatherhead.1999. Growth and sexual size dimorphism in northern water snakes, Nerodia sipedon. Copeia 1999: 722-731.
