The Edmonton Food Policy Council interviewed 460 low income Edmontonians about their food needs and found that three-quarters of them were having trouble getting enough healthy food on a regular basis. The Edmonton Food Policy Council received a two year grant from Health and Welfare Canada Health Promotion Directorate to do a Community Food Needs Assessment and develop and action plan to address the barriers to food security that were identified. The project began in January, 1990.
