This course was created in response to the UBC Indigenous Strategic Plan 2020 commitment for Indigenous Engagement and the UBC Pharmaceutical Sciences 2017-2022 Strategic Plan to increase the scope of education and professional development in Indigenous health. The course includes broad topics that fall under the following 5 course pillars: 1) Colonialism, 2) Power and Privilege, 3) Cultural Safety and Humility, 4) Health and Healing, and 5) Ethical Engagement. Students will be encouraged to balance western evidence-based medicine with traditional Indigenous knowledge systems. This builds on foundational content covered in the first year of the program. The course content was created and will be delivered in collaboration with Indigenous partners.
